Description: |
Engraved four-shilling note issued by North Carolina. Printed from engraved copper plate with scrolled leafage border on left edge and monogram in a circle on lower left corner. Printed inscription: “North Carolina./ iv s. Four Shillings./ Proclamation Money according to Act of / Assembly pass’d ye 9th of March 1754.” Bill is numbered in ink in upper right corner: “____.” Signed in ink on obverse: “Sam Swann,” “Jn [John] Swann,”/ “Lewis De Rosset.” In ink on reverse: “from __ Manh__/ to LH.” Bill was folded in half.
