The Young Adult Summer Reading Program begins June 15, 2009.
Registration packets will be available at the kickoff from 4:30-6:00 in the Auditorium. The program is open to students having already completed grades 7-12. Teens are invited to read anything!!!!!
Participants will monitor their time spent reading. In order to qualify to attend the end of program social, a total of at least 18 hours must be logged.
The best thing about this program is that you can log ANY time spent reading! Reading the paper? Magazines? Blogging or checking out a friend’s Facebook messages? Texting? IM? You were reading! Time spent reading to a younger sibling to help them make their goals in the Summer Reading Program even counts toward your goal!
“Checking
In”, the Young Adult Programs, will be held on Mondays from
4:30-6:00 pm. Each week will be a new program, with an emphasis
on Creativity–Express Yourself here at your Library!!
This year’s program includes a video contest; teens can express themselves on video in 10 minute shorts to be screened at a special event in the New Bern Civic Theatre in July. Prizes will be awarded for best interpretation of the theme, and a reception afterwards will honor all entrees. All time records must be turned in by July 20, 2009.
Prizes will be awarded at the end of program party for most hours read and most creative use of time spent reading to someone else! Prizes, music, crafts and fun throughout the summer!
