The New Bern-Craven County Public Library is now accepting applications for a:

Library Assistant III
(Full-Time Youth Services Assistant)

Seeking a dynamic individual with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment; ability to work with a diverse public providing services to children, young adults, & their care givers and have strong customer service skills; ability to use a variety of technologies including computers, media equipment, & office equipment; accuracy and attention to detail with a high level of productivity are required.

Duties:
Acknowledges each library patron with a pleasant greeting and promotes the library’s collection and services in a friendly and helpful manner. Provides readers’ advisory and reference services. Assists patrons in locating materials, using the library’s online catalog, and requesting materials. Answers a variety of reference questions utilizing the library’s print and digital collections. Assists in planning, promoting, and implementing programs for children and young adults. Conducts library tours for classes and groups. Assists with collection development and creates brochures, bibliographies, and display on library resources. Accurately sorts and shelves materials, shelf-reads, and shifts items as needed. Performs intermediate troubleshooting of library equipment. Cross-trains to assist in other departments. Job requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, and standing for long periods of time.

Work Schedule:
40 hours per week, including some nights and 1-2 weekends (Saturdays & Sundays) per month.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or have an equivalent combination of experience and training. Computer skills for this position are essential. Experience in library work or a working knowledge of library science is desirable.

Starting Salary:
$12.00 per hour Includes holiday pay. Sick and vacation leave accrual after a 4 month probationary period. Position is eligible for health insurance and the NC Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System.
